About this title:
Since the Sherman M4A4 was powered by a Chrysler WC Multibank engine (formed from five commercial automobile engines aligned on a common driveshaft), the tank required a lengthened rear hull to accommodate it.

A great many M4A4s of the 7,499 produced were delivered to Allied armies like the British and Free French. Free French Forces had been established after General De Gaulle and the exiled French government issued a call to arms on 18 June 1940.

By the time of the Normandy campaign in 1944, Free French Forces numbered 400,000. The Free French 2nd Armoured Division drove south to Paris, while the 1st Army joined in the invasion of southern France.
