This item from Dragon Armor offers collectors a novel twist – it shows a Sherman Firefly undergoing treatment at the paint shop! The Firefly, a British adaptation of the Sherman that mounted a 17pdr gun, was the only British tank in WWII that could hope for some kind of parity with heavier German tanks. However, when it came to mechanical reliability and industrial capacity, the Allies were more than a match for the Third Reich. As the war wore on and Germany’s industrial might could no longer keep pace in terms of tank production, captured Russian and Allied tanks were sometimes put into German service as a matter of desperation or expediency. 60319 is a Firefly Vc and includes a scale German figure brushing new markings onto the captured tank, the tank has had a series of white crosses, plus 'G' and 'W' painted on as an early form of identification Friend or Foe!
The Sherman M4A3, fitted with a 500hp V8 petrol engine, was the fifth production type of the famous Sherman tank. It was the most favoured version of the U.S. Army, with 4761 tanks eventually built. Dragon Armor has released an exciting new M4A3 model and to make it more appealing it has a number of unique features. It is fitted with a 105mm gun rather than the usual 75mm gun, which allowed it to be used for close support. The suspension system features an HVSS setup, which was tougher than the original VVSS system. This 1/72 model portrays a tank of the 713th Tank Battalion fighting in Okinawa in 1945. The Battle of Okinawa was fierce, with the US suffering twice the number of casualties it received at Iwo Jima and Guadalcanal combined. A total of 66,000 Japanese defenders were killed and only 7000 were captured. To make less of a target the Allied star markings on the hull and turret have been smeared with mud!
